Keith Burdette Smith's Obituary
In Loving Memory of Keith Burdette Smith
Keith Burdette Smith, 91, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, passed from this life on July 24, 2025. Born on December 16, 1933, in Alma Township, Marion County, Illinois, he was the cherished son of Warren Henry Smith and Minnie Blanche (Craig) Smith.
Keith’s life was marked by humility, devotion, and service. He proudly served in the United States Army, having been drafted in 1956. He served two years, part of that time in Germany, followed by four years in the Army Reserves. His commitment to his country was one of many reflections of his servant’s heart.
That same spirit of service continued throughout his life. Keith served in the Tulsa Police Reserves for 21 years, acted as a chaplain, and coached his daughter’s softball team. He was deeply involved in his church, contributing through the finance committee, the choir, and wherever he was needed. He loved singing bass alongside his beloved wife at the piano, and found joy in harmonizing with the Southern gospel quartet they formed with others from their church.
On October 23, 1955, Keith married the love of his life, Margaret F. Smith, at Cubbage Chapel in Marion County, Illinois. Their nearly 69 years of marriage stood as a testament to unconditional love, partnership, and unwavering faith.
Professionally, Keith found great success as a salesman of oilfield equipment, working with Bovaird Supply Company and BHC Pipe and Equipment Co. for over five decades. He retired at the age of 80, having built a career as steady and reliable as the man himself.
Keith is survived by his children Gregory Smith, Julia Wood and her husband Paul, son-in-law Bryan Gaston; 10 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and numerous other family members and friends who will forever cherish his memory. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Margaret; his daughter, Sara Gaston; his daughter in law Sheryl Dawson Smith, and two granddaughters, Kayla Dawson and Patricia Joanne Smith.
His greatest joy was his family, and he was devoted to them and his community. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed.''
