Showalter, Kelly Suzanne's Obituary
Kelly was born on April 22, 1956 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Her mother is Suzanne Anderson and her father was Leonard Straker.
Kelly attended Mountain Brook High School in Birmingham, Alabama. Kelly received a B.S. as a Medical Technician from the University of Alabama, Birmingham. Kelly later received a Pharmacy Degree from Xavier University in New Orleans. Kelly then received a doctorate in Pharmacology from the University of Iowa. After a stint as a college professor at the University of Louisiana–Monroe. Kelly moved to Glaxo Smith Kline for twenty-four years as a Medical Science Liaison. During her career, Kelly received numerous awards and honors as a pharmacist.
Kelly is survived by her mother, Suzanne, her sister, Sally Rush, and Sally’s son, Brad Rush, and his wife, Willow, and Sally’s son, Jay Rush and his wife, Tia. She is also survived by her life partner, Neal Mercer, and his children, Jessica Jennings, Mark Mercer and his wife, Daniella, and Scott Mercer and his wife, Kaitlyn.
Kelly loved to ride her bicycle and she was thrilled by travel. Kelly had traveled to most of the United States and had traveled to many foreign locales. Her favorite companions were her cats.
After retiring, Kelly enjoyed part-time jobs at Discovery Labs, Eldergrow, and Mad Science in Tulsa. Kelly was determined to help other people. She served as a pharmacist on a Medical Mission to India, and as a participant with the Tulsa Area Immunization Coalition. Kelly provided COVID vaccinations with the Oklahoma Medical Reserve Coalition during the pandemic.
Kelly’s service is August 12, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Yale Avenue Presbyterian Church, 510 S. Yale, Tulsa, OK 74112.
In lieu of flowers, family and friends are invited to donate to the Tulsa Area Immunization Coalition, c/o Tulsa Health Department, 5051 S. 129th E. Ave., Tulsa OK 74134.
There will be a reception after the memorial service in Bixby from 3:30-5:30 PM.
