Kingston James Whitmore's Obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved son, Kingston James Whitmore, who left this world to be with Jesus on May 14, 2024, at the age of 13, in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving parents and devoted nurse of twelve years, Ar Hang.
Kingston was born on August 27, 2010, and from the moment he came into the world, he showed an incredible fighting spirit, strength, and resilience. When he was born, the doctors gave him a life expectancy of five days. He surpassed that prognosis by ONE THOUSAND times, living for over 13 years. Despite being diagnosed with Full Trisomy 13, Kingston faced each day with bravery and a fighting spirit that inspired everyone who knew him.
Kingston is survived by his parents, Leon Victor Whitmore III, and Lori Michelle (Street) Whitmore; his siblings, Kristina Brooke (Whitmore) Cheek and family, Leon Victor Whitmore IV, Zachary Ethan Whitmore, and Preston Loric Whitmore, Aunts JoAnna Lynn (Street) Maust and family and Hilarie Dawn Whitmore and Uncles Matthew Scott Whitmore and Charles Jon Carl Gammino, Grandparents Marsha Michele (McFarren) Whitmore, Rev. Bill Street, Jr and Margaret Ann (Platt) Street. He is also cherished by numerous extended family members, friends, and his dedicated medical team and those in the medical community, who all played significant roles throughout his amazing life.
Kingston’s life, though short, was filled with love, joy, tenacity, and many cherished moments. His spirit touched the hearts of many and even led someone to the Lord at just 5 days old. Kingston’s 13 years on earth were a testament to the power of love and faith. Kingston was made the Honorary Varsity Football Captain by the Victory Christian School football team, a role he and his family cherished deeply. At a very special football game the day before his 13th birthday, God would use the gift of his presence to aid in saving the life of a Cascia Hall football player, Collin Cottom, who had coded on the field. Heroes in the medical field who were present that night at the game were able to use Kingston’s ambu bag and multiple oxygen tanks to resuscitate him and keep him stable until an ambulance arrived. It is humbling knowing that God was able to use the extraordinary life of a child with a terminal illness who was only given 5 days to live, was globally handicapped, legally blind and deaf, unable to walk, talk or do anything for himself, to save the life of another just by showing up.
Kingston’s parents devoted their lives to giving him the very best quality of life he could have. They, as well as Kingston’s siblings, made extreme sacrifices on this journey that most will never know or begin to understand. They all share an incredible bond that can never be broken…forever one another’s champions.
On the morning of his passing, Kingston enjoyed the simple pleasures of nature, listening to the birds outside and watching the waterfalls of his backyard pool with his mom. His eyes lit up as he smelled the roses his mother had received from him for Mother's Day, a poignant reminder of his love for life’s little wonders and the importance of stopping to smell the roses each and every day. Later that day, despite our best efforts to resuscitate him as we had done countless times before,
his heart stopped and he passed away surrounded by his Mother, Father and long time nurse, Ar Hang.
Kingston’s departure leaves an unimaginable void in our hearts. We find comfort in knowing that he is no longer in pain and running free in Heaven with his Savior, surrounded by family members who preceded him. His life is a celebration of love, courage, strength, and unwavering faith. His grit is unmatched and every single day of his life he ran his race SO STRONG. May Kingston’s example of grace and perseverance inspire all of us to own our jersey like he did and become the MVP of our own stories.
A special thank you to Dr. TL Carey, his Doctor of over twelve years, and Kingston’s nurses, Ar Hang and many others who cared for him, for their unwavering care and support. Our gratitude also extends to the Victory Christian School football team and coaches for making Kingston’s journey so honorable. January 26th, 2023 he was awarded the Kingston Whitmore Courage Award. This is the biggest award in Victory Football and is awarded each year to the individual who has inspired the Victory Community with their courage in the face of incredible odds.”
A memorial service to honor Kingston’s life will be held on May 23rd, at Noon, at the River Oaks Presbyterian Church at 5150 E. 101st St. S., Tulsa, OK 74137. The service is followed by a reception at Glass Chapel West from 4:00 – 6:30PM (come and go) at 12361 S 49th W Ave in Sapulpa, OK, 74066. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Victory Christian School
Football program, in honor of the Kingston James Whitmore Memorial fund. https://vcstulsa.org/kingston/
