Kirby A. Chaney's Obituary
Kirby Allen Chaney, 56, of Cedar Park, Texas, passed away at home on March 24, 2016, surrounded by family. He was born on May 19, 1959, in Oxnard, California, to Robert Allen Chaney and Cornelia Watkins. He grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma.Kirby proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. After serving in the Navy on a fast frigate, Kirby wanted to travel the world. He eventually spent time in 45 countries, on six continents. After returning from his time in the Navy, Kirby worked for the City of Tulsa in the water and sewer department. He earned his BS Engineering from Oklahoma State University in 1992, during which time he was active in student government at OSU-Tulsa. Through his 20-plus years with CH2M, most recently as Vice President, Operations and Maintenance, Kirby led dozens of projects and teams around the country and around the world, spending time in Brazil, Egypt, Taiwan, Indonesia and Puerto Rico, just to name a few. Kirby brought clean water to people in need after the 2005 tsunami in Southeast Asia. His last international assignment took him to Mongolia, where he led a group assisting the Oyu Tolgoi copper mine in the South Gobi. He lived life to the fullest with his wife, Angela, creating many happy memories together. Kirby leaves scores of friends all over the world.Kirby is survived by his wife, Angela Jones Chaney of Cedar Park; mother Cornelia Schlecht of Tulsa, Oklahoma; daughter, Jessica Chaney of Cedar Park; step-daughter, Shannon Pilkerton of Tulsa, Oklahoma; granddaughter, Zoa Pilkerton; sisters, Karen Robert and Dana Myers; half-sisters Chris Anne Barker and Susan Golson; step-brothers, Dean Schlecht, Joseph Schlecht, Patrick Schlecht; step-sisters, Helen Harrison and Maggie Skinner; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and other family.In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Kirby Chaney may be sent to the American Cancer Society or the Kirby A. Chaney Foundation which is being created by friends and family.Memorial services will be held Saturday, 3 p.m. April 9, 2016, at Floral Haven Funeral Home, 6500 South 129th East Avenue, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, 74012. 918-921-9117, [email protected]
