Tulsa: Kirksey Ronald Nelson, 76, died Monday, October 2, 2017 at the Saint Francis Hospice Unit.He is survived by one sister Rudiene F Grimes, two daughters, Ronenah Ann Goodwin, son-in-law Thomas Goodwin, Sonya Denise Nelson; three grandchildren; Nathan Kirby and his wife Marion Kirby, Shaunda Sellers and Shane Fowler and his wife Candace; seven great grandchildren; Ailend, Maverick, Michael, Christopher, Wyatt, Samantha, and John. And very special friend Patrick Stewart.Born and raised in Eufaula, Oklahoma. The son of Leona and Thomas Odell Nelson. Resident of Eufaula until 1985 when he relocated to Tulsa, Oklahoma.After graduation from Eufaula High School, he entered the Army National Guard of Oklahoma where he served four years as a Sergeant E5.He married the love of his life, Patricia Sue Terry of Checotah, OK, in May 1971. They enjoyed being married for 42 years, until her passing in 2007.Mr. Nelson started his newspaper career under Homer Hedges setting type on the old linotype system and printing the newspaper using the old letterpress system. He was a veteran of his hometown newspaper, The Indian Journal, for 25 years. Mr. Nelson continued his newspaper career with a move to Tulsa, OK in 1985 with Neighbor Newspapers and the Broken Arrow Ledger and retired in 2011.Mr. Nelson had a life long passion for singing gospel music, and for many years he traveled the country with the “King Sons” for gospel revivals. His greatest passion in life was attending and singing at his church, Eastland Assembly of God, in Tulsa, OK where he a member for over 20 years.Visitation will be 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM with the family receiving friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Thursday, October 5th, Floral Haven Funeral Home.Funeral Service will be 3:00 PM, Friday, October 6th, Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel.
