Kristy Lynne Childers' Obituary
In Loving Memory of Kristy Lynne Childers
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kristy Lynne Childers, born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on January 1, 1962, and departed this world from Houston, Texas on November 18, 2023 with her loving family by her side. Kristy touched the lives of many with her kindness and warmth. She will be forever missed.
Kristy Lynne Childers was the first child born to DurDene Bush Oehler and Bill Puroff on January 1, 1962. She spent her early years attending St. Pius and Marquette Catholic schools and graduated from Bishop Kelley High School in 1980. A strong student in mathematics, Kristy was especially proud of her academic achievement in Brother Bernardine’s advanced math program. She was well loved by her peers and teachers and was selected to be a school bus driver her junior and senior year – a responsibility Kristy took on with pride and always spoke of fondly. Just like her father, she had a strong work ethic and was highly dedicated to each role she occupied throughout her life. Most recently, Kristy was the Revenue Audit Manager for Hard Rock Casino where she held various positions for 24 years. She loved her job and mentioned that she worked there to everyone she met.
Kristy loved planning long road trips and was always sure to include visits to Presidential Libraries on her itineraries. She was a voracious reader, and one could easily find two or three paperbacks in her purse at any given time. Kristy was generous with her time and willing to lend a hand on any occasion, spending many evenings helping her children, nieces and nephews with their math assignments. Her competitive spirit was unmatched, and she adored playing games with her family (especially on vacations.) An avid proponent of fun and spending time with loved ones, Kristy was the main organizer of family trips, including cabin getaways and float trips down the river. She loved nothing more than to see her favorite people laughing, sharing stories, playing games and enjoying big meals together on holidays.
Before Kristy left us on November 18, she asked to ensure that everyone knew she was a fighter and that she never gave up. She battled her illness with resilience and grace and was extremely thankful for the care she received, especially from Dr. Nikhil Mukhi and the teams at St. Francis and Stephenson Cancer Center in OKC. Kristy is preceded in death by her parents DurDene Bush Oehler and Bill Puroff, as well as her brother Brent Suppes. She is survived by bonus parents Joyce Puroff and Hans Oehler, husband Richard Childers, daughter Jennifer (Caleb Kifer), son Rich Waller (Nicole Legault), son Bryan Waller, daughter Bailey Childers, bonus daughter Jessica Chippis (Steve Brison) and family, step-daughters Madison and Mallory Childers, and her beloved grandchildren Rylee and Madalynne Kifer. She is also survived by siblings Beth (Bill Cartwright), Renee (Rich Bevins), Wes Suppes, Debra (Dick Rauner), Stefanie (Jay Martin) and Sarah Tronnier, as well as many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Kristy’s ready smile, quick wit and friendly demeanor will be missed by all those who knew her and were lucky enough to love and be loved by her.
