LaHoma Lois Thompson's Obituary
LaHoma Lois Turner Thompson died Tuesday, December 22 after a short illness. She would have been 85 on her birthday, January 5th. LaHoma was the daughter of Reba (Cannon) Pence and William Carl Pence, and “Jack” Turner. She was preceded in death by her husband, Drue Thompson, her parents, and two babies we never knew. LaHoma grew up in Tulsa and Turley. Although Drue proposed on their first date, she waited until after her graduation from Will Rogers High School in 1949 to marry him. They were married for 54 years. It was a good marriage with much joy, even when together they battled Drue’s Parkinson’s disease. They were a model to their children and grandchildren of what it meant to be committed to one another. LaHoma leaves behind her daughters and sons-in-law, Kathryn and Bill Flesher and Karen and Frank Fasig, all of Tulsa. She adored her grandchildren: Russell, Stephanie and Kelsey Fasig and Andrew Flesher, Patrick Flesher and wife Brooke. She and Drue “adopted” Zully Maravez of Bogota, Colombia, her children Enrique, Valerie, and Natalie, and Rocky Blankenship of Tulsa. In her later years, she was loved and protected by her dear one, Lowell Plaster, and her precious pup, Charlie. LaHoma was a woman of faith and strength. She overcame many adversities, always remaining kind and forgiving. Serving God was her first priority which she did in many ways including teaching Bible school to two year olds, Bible hours and ladies classes. LaHoma loved “going anywhere”, trying new things, having red hair, cooking and baking, playing with her grandchildren, helping others, jewelry that sparkled and ice cream and cookies. She loved all holidays but especially Christmas. It is fitting that she decided to go to heaven for Christmas this year and celebrate with Jesus. Those who knew LaHoma were blessed. She was a great encourager, prayer warrior, teacher and loyal friend. She taught us to be kind, forgiving, adventurous, how to balance a checkbook and that home was a safe and welcoming place with pie in the fridge and the coffee pot always on. She was the woman of Proverbs 31 and we are better people because of her. A viewing will be held at Floral Haven Funeral Home, 6500 South 129th East Avenue, on Thursday, December 24 from 9 a.m. until Noon. Services will be conducted at Crosstown Church of Christ, 3400 East Admiral Place, on Saturday, December 26 at 10 a.m. Remembrances may be made to the American Arthritis Foundation and the American Parkinson Disease Foundation.
