Larry Lyster's Obituary
Larry J. Lyster, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on February 20, 2026 in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 84.
Born on August 21, 1941 in Joplin, MO, he was the son of Leon and Beulah (Kerr) Lyster. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Kenneth Lyster, and his wife Claudia Lyster.
Larry was a CPA and began his career at BF Goodrich in Miami, OK. While working there, he got a degree from Missouri Southern and his masters from Drury College. He moved his family from Joplin to Tulsa to work at the Williams Companies. He later became the controller for Auto Crane and then purchased The Hamlet, which he owned for several years.
Larry loved the beach and sunsets on the ocean. He found joy in exploring new places and was always ready for the next trip!
He was happiest when surrounded by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought out the soft side he tried so hard to hide. Larry could be stubborn and set in his ways, but those who knew him well understood that beneath the tough exterior was a deeply warm heart.
He was a devoted OU fan, proudly cheering on the Sooners every chance he got. He never missed a morning with the Tulsa World in hand, and if there was a Bloody Mary nearby, even better.
Larry shared 63 beautiful years of marriage with his beloved wife Claudia, who passed away in 2024 after a courageous battle with cancer. Their love was the foundation of everything he built in life. Though he carried on with quiet strength after her passing, it was clear how deeply he missed her.
Larry leaves behind his sister, Dovie Carpenter of Saint Louis, daughter Julie Magnuson, son David Lyster (Leslie) and grandchildren Chad Coleman (Ashley), Cassidy Magnuson, Chance Lyster, Chandler Marsden (Matt), and Camryn Cash (Andrew) as well as great-grandchildren Ella-Mae Coleman, Rivvy Coleman and Maddox Marsden. Larry also leaves behind many other family and friends from a life well lived.
A celebration of Larry's life will be held on Monday, March 9, 2026 at 12:30pm at Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel located at 6500 S. 129th E. Ave., Broken Arrow, OK 74012.
