Larry Merchant's Obituary
Larry Merchant, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and esteemed member of the Tulsa community, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2024, surrounded by his loving family at his home. He was 74 years old. Born on May 22, 1949, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Larry was the cherished son of the late William and Dorothy Merchant. On August 10, 1974, he united in marriage with the love of his life, Jeanne, sharing 49 wonderful years together. Larry proudly served his country in the US Navy, demonstrating his commitment to duty and honor. Following his honorable discharge, he embarked on a distinguished career in law enforcement, joining the Tulsa Police Department where he faithfully served for 26 years. Later, he transferred to the Tulsa Sheriff's Department, culminating his career with a well-deserved retirement. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Larry was a man of many passions and interests. He found solace in the great outdoors, indulging in hunting and camping adventures. A connoisseur of firearms, he possessed a deep appreciation for marksmanship. Larry's adventurous spirit knew no bounds, as he fearlessly embraced new experiences and hobbies with enthusiasm. However, amidst his pursuits, Larry's greatest joy came from the time spent with his beloved family. He cherished moments shared with his children and grandchildren, creating lasting memories. Larry will be remembered for his warmth, generosity, and unwavering devotion to his loved ones. His indomitable spirit and zest for life leave an enduring legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jeanne Merchant; his daughter, Jennifer Ha; daughter, Kathleen Pence and her husband, Joel; his grandchildren, Ashton Ha, Bailey Pence, Levi Pence, Piper Pence; his siblings, Marcia Cobler and her husband, Bruce, Louis Merchant and his wife, Linda, Carolyn Horn and her husband, Doug, and Mary Kaye Castillo and her husband Mark; and a host of relatives and friends who will miss him dearly. In honoring Larry's memory, let us celebrate his life and the profound impact he had on all who had the privilege of knowing him. Though he may no longer walk among us, his spirit will forever remain in our hearts.
Visitation will be 5-7 pm, Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at Floral Haven Funeral Home.
