Laura Alice Hodges' Obituary
Laura Alice Hodges was born June 1, 1928 in Sage, Arkansas to Joseph Pinckney and Mabel Stroud Davidson. She was the youngest of 13 children. She went to her Heavenly Home on April 1, 2016 at the age of 87. Laura graduated from Melbourne High School in 1945 and married the love of her life, Paul Henry Hodges, in November 1948. They made their home in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where they raised two daughters, Pauletta and Rhonda. She loved being a wife, mother and homemaker, and served her Lord as a Sunday School teacher for 18 years also teaching in VBS every summer. In later years, they moved to Verdigris, where they enjoyed being close to their grandchildren. It was then that she became known as Granmama to everyone. When her husband of 45 years passed away, her life was filled with great grandchildren. She never missed a ball game or any church or school program. Laura was a member of Harvest Baptist Church, Verdigris, where she loved her senior class and rarely missed a Sunday. One of her favorite past times was shopping. She loved clothes and could always find a good bargain. Her families favorite memories are of Christmas candy, storybook reading, game playing and the undivided attention she gave to them whether it be her wise counsel or playing with them when they were small. She was known for her great cornbread sticks, dressing, pies, mashed potatoes and giblet gravy. No holiday was complete without her cooking. Laura is survived by her daughter and son-in-law’s, Pauletta and Trey Hamilton and Rhonda and Delbert Tygart, all of Verdigris. Her grandchildren, Shelly and Darrell Battenfield, Verdigris, Jason and Emily Hamilton, Owasso, Becky and Kent McCain, Verdigris and Nathan Tygart, Owasso; great grandchildren, Blake, Peyton, Keara and Callie Battenfield, Brayden and Ashton Hamilton, Kylee and Lawson McCain.
