LaVerne Suit's Obituary
Armenthia LaVerne Suit passed away August 5, 2015 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was born May 29, 1923 in Milburn, Oklahoma to the late William Alvin and Effie Armenthia Phillips. LaVerne was the one of eight daughters. Her father (PaPa) was the sheriff in Milburn. Her mother(Mama) was a homemaker. The girls grew helping their parents on the farm, raising turkeys and chickens. LaVerne attended and graduated from Milburn High School. After graduation, LaVerne worked as a telephone operator for three years in Alvin, Oklahoma, then three years in Tulsa. After marrying James (Jim), the love of her life on June 10, 1943, they shared a wonderful journey. LaVerne also worked for Civil Service, then one year at Saint Francis of Colorado Springs, Co, but her favorite job was being Jim’s wife and caring for their home. LaVerne followed Jim all over the country while he served in the United States Army. They lived in Texas, Colorado Springs, Kentucky, Alaska, Louisiana, Wisconsin, Missouri and finally in Tulsa. LaVerne always said that if she would have had a son, it would Mark, who, along with his wife, Elizabeth, took loving care of both LaVerne and Jim. LaVerne had a deep faith in God. She believed in the bible and the Jesus would return again. She was a woman of principle: a loving, caring, funny and strong person. Her favorite hobbies included watching birds, gardening, camping, fishing/hunting and writing poetry. LaVerne also loved gospel and country music and telling stories. She was the best story teller! One could sit and listen to her stories forever! Her favorite flowers were red roses. She also loved red cardinals. She will be missed by all. LaVerne will always have a special place in our hearts. She was a Lady who wore many hats and did it well. Hats off to you! The family would like to thank Saint Simeon’s staff and Saint Francis Hospice for their dedication and loving care of LaVerne. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donation be made to Saint Simeon’s, 3701 MLK Jr. Blvd, Tulsa, OK 74106 in LaVerne’s Memory.
