Laveta Kay Long's Obituary
Laveta Kay Long entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior on Friday, November 22, 2024 with her husband of 53 years by her side. She was born February 4, 1950, in Lawton, Oklahoma to Don Webster and Lois Irene (Robinson) Hooper. Laveta grew up on her family’s farm just west of Fletcher, Oklahoma and graduated from Fletcher High School in 1968. She received a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma in 1973. Laveta married Jon Steven Long in the First Baptist Church, Fletcher Oklahoma on December 31, 1970. After residing 40 years in Lawton, Oklahoma Laveta and Jon relocated to Broken Arrow, Oklahoma in 2011 to be close to her daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren.
Laveta dedicated her life to Jesus, her family, and her church and was a long-time member of First Baptist Church in Lawton, Oklahoma and then Arrow Heights Baptist Church in Broken Arrow. She actively served as a Sunday School teacher in various preschool and elementary departments, spanning decades of service. Additionally, Laveta acted as preschool director and division Sunday School director and taught Vacation Bible School programs every summer. Laveta was a champion of children and was described by many who knew her as “kind, gentle, and always patient." Laveta was passionate about sharing the love of Jesus with children in a way they could understand and poured herself into nurturing countless young hearts over her many years of service.
Laveta worked professionally as a Kindergarten teacher and then Assistant Director for First Baptist Child Development Center in Lawton, Oklahoma. After taking an extended leave to raise her daughter, Laveta returned to the classroom and worked as an assistant in special education and substitute teacher for Lawton Public Schools.
Laveta is survived by her husband of the home, Jon Long; daughter, Stefanie Roberts and husband Jeremy; three grandchildren, Braeden Roberts, Lydia Roberts, and Luke Roberts; her sister Patty Ryder of Fletcher; her brother Don Wesley “DW” Hooper of Fletcher; and many extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her two premature children.

A public visitation will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2024, from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM, at Floral Haven Funeral Home: 6500 S 129th E Ave, Broken Arrow, OK 74012.
Those wishing to send flowers for the service may do so by calling Floral Designs by Floral Haven at (918) 459-1525. Independent florists may deliver flowers directly to Floral Haven Funeral Home by 3:00 PM on Thursday, December 5, 2024, in order for them to be set out and properly displayed for Laveta's visitation in a timely manner.
A funeral service to honor the life of Laveta will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, December 6, 2024, at Arrow Heights Baptist Church, located at: 3201 S Elm Pl, Broken Arrow, OK 74012. Interment will follow at 2:30 PM, immediately after conclusion of the church service at Floral Haven Memorial Gardens in The Masonic Garden, for anyone wishing to attend.
