Lee Simpson's Obituary
Mr. Lee Vern Simpson in his 70th year, peacefully made his transition to eternal rest surrounded by his family at Saint Simeon’s Skilled Nursing Center of Tulsa, Oklahoma on Sunday October 14, 2018.Lee Vern was born from the loving union of Leroy and Maryetta (Maxwell) Simpson in Muskogee, Oklahoma on August 10, 1948. He was the fourth of eleven children born to this union.Vern, as he was fondly called by those who knew him, began his early education within the Muskogee School District – attending Langston Elementary School, Sadler Junior High School and finally completing his formal education in May of 1966 at the historical Manual Training High School.Vern’s spiritual life began at an early age at Northside Church of Christ in Muskogee. After relocating to Tulsa, he placed his membership with Peoria and Young Church of Christ. And there, he remained as an active and faithful member serving as an usher until his health began to fail.Vern was united in Holy Matrimony to Nancy Long in 1969 and in October of 1972, they were blessed with a beautiful baby girl named Mia. Their union was later dissolved. Vern was employed as a machinist at McDonnell Douglas Corporation based in Tulsa, Oklahoma until the formal announcement of its impending closing in December 1993. After the plant officially closed in 1994, he accepted employment within the City of Tulsa and later served as a Road Foreman for BECCO Contractors, Inc. until his retirement.Vern lived his life to the fullest. He enjoyed cooking and showing off his expertise on the grill. He loved being among family and friends, but above all, he valued every moment that he spent with his daughter and grandkids. Vern was always the life of the gathering and his presence will be greatly missed by family and friends, as well as everyone whose life he has touched.He was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Maryetta Simpson; two sisters, Lela Simpson and Dorothy Teague; one brother, Elroy Simpson; and a grandson, William Edward Moore, Jr.He leaves to cherish his precious memory; a daughter, Mia (William) Moore, Tulsa, Oklahoma; a nephew, Reggie Long who he helped to raised; four brothers, Alfred [Tony] Simpson, Muskogee, Oklahoma; Lewis [Martha] Simpson, McAlester, Oklahoma; James [Wanda] Simpson Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; and Earl [Veronica] Simpson Houston, Texas; three sisters, Rosetta Roberson, Tulsa, Oklahoma; Ann McVay, Muskogee, Oklahoma; and Lilla “Pat” [Archie] Craft Houston, Texas; a special friend, Rochelle, Tulsa, Oklahoma; two grandchildren Christian and Leah Moore; along with a large caravan of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends who will truly miss him.
