Leon Melton's Obituary
Leon Melton was born April 1, 1931 to John Abraham Melton and Myrtle Teal Melton in Berryville, Arkansas. Leon was 83 years and 8 months old when he passed from this life on December 2, 2014 at his home in Catoosa, OK.Leon grew up in Arkansas, Oklahoma and California with his brothers and sisters, friends and family where he made countless wonderful memories of work and play that he loved to share with others. Leon was drafted into the United States Army in 1952 and served his country in the Korean War until 1954.Leon was married to Saundra Gail Hurst on November 15, 1957 and lived in Tulsa, Claremore, Verdigris and Catoosa over their 57 year marriage. Leon began his transmission repair business in 1957 in Tulsa, then moved his transmission business to Claremore where he operated for seven years before owning and operating his own used car sales business in Verdigris, Oklahoma, until he semi-retired in 1990 and moved to Tulsa. Leon loved hunting, gardening, spending time with friends and family, and never really retired because he enjoyed his work. He was a member of Woodcrest Free Will Baptist Church in Catoosa where he was active in his congregation and made many good friends.Leon is survived by his wife, Saundra of the home, two sons, Jimmie Melton of Owasso, David Melton of Claremore and his wife, Lisa Bridwell Melton, and one daughter, Leah Melton Harman of Cashion and her husband, Clayton Harman, one sister, Joan Wilson of Catoosa, brothers Jerry Melton of Tulsa and Steve Melton of Tulsa, sister-in-law Isabel Melton of Claremore, grandsons John Melton of Okmulgee, Matthew Harman and Benjamin Harman of Cashion, Brandon Melton of Tahlequah, Donnie McDonald of Claremore, grand-daughters Sarah Melton Roach and husband Eddie Roach of Moore, Kammie Lockhart of Chelsea, and one great-granddaughter Kaycee Roach of Moore, and many very special nieces, nephews and cousins. Leon was preceded in death by his parents, John Abraham Melton and Myrtle Teal Melton, an infant son Billy Leon Melton, brother J.B. Melton, and sister Bessie Willis, brother-in-law Bob Willis, and brother-in-law Don Wilson of Catoosa.
