Leslie "Shawn" Paxton's Obituary
Leslie “Shawn” Paxton, 51, of Tulsa, passed away September 11th, 2022. Born January 28th, 1971, in Tulsa, OK. Shawn enjoyed life and was always in motion from the time he was born. If ever he couldn’t move his body, then his mouth was moving even if it was just sounds and no words. One of his teachers once asked his mother how to get him to sit still and stop talking? She replied, “If you ever figure it out, let me know.” She sat on him while he completed his schoolwork on the floor. He started laying carpet at a young age and probably knew more about it than people learn nowadays. He also had some time doing masonry, concrete, construction, and gardening, he was never afraid of hard work. He was very determined and tenacious when he set his mind to something. He really enjoyed services at Mother Tucker’s Ministries. Even having a kidney removed didn’t keep him from walking several miles to be there. He said he always felt better when he was there. His pride and joy was his service dog, a deer head chihuahua named Sassy. He doted on her, and she was his reason for hanging in there and staying around these past few years. She would let him know in advance if he was about to have an asthma attack or if his breathing wasn’t right in the middle of the night, giving him time to take action. He was preceded in death by two siblings Dennis Lee and Charles Scott, and his father Dennis. He was survived by his mother Ethel Ellen Smith and his sister Michelle, and another brother William Keith. He was also survived by a myriad of friends and “brothers” he met along his journey through life. A stranger was never a stranger for long with him. There will be a funeral service at Floral Haven Chapel in Broken Arrow, OK with the date and time still to be determined. If you feel led, in lieu of flowers, please support your local animal shelter.
A memorial service will be held in honor of Shawn please check back for details.
