Lewis C. Wantland Jr.'s Obituary
Lewis Charles Wantland Jr. was born on November 3, 1932 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Lewis Charles Wantland and Lena Mae (Cox) Wantland.The family moved to Tulsa in 1933 where Lewis’ father (Mr. Wantland) ran his business, “Oklahoma Barber Supply,” until his death in 1967.Lewis attended school in Tulsa Oklahoma at Franklin Elementary, Wilson Junior High, and graduated from Will Rogers High School in 1951. While in high school Lewis was an avid roller-skater, winning many champion meets, trophies and medals.Lewis joined the United States Air Force after graduation and was stationed in Biloxi Mississippi where he met and married Rose Mary Bechtel and from this union raised 3 sons.Lewis worked for several manufacturing companies as a tool maker. He finished his working career after working for Badger Meter Inc. for 27 years where he retired in 1999 as a Production Superintendent of the Valve Shop.He met Billy Jean Robinson McCoy and they married in 1983. Their combined family includes 5 sons, Mike Wantland and wife Robin of Paris, Texas, Lewis Charles Wantland III and wife Renee of Claremore, Oklahoma, Robert Wantland and wife Tina of Prosper, Texas, stepsons Fred D. McCoy of Spavinaw, Oklahoma, and Jack G. McCoy and wife Barbara of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, 15 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.Lewis attended the Good Shephard Lutheran Church for 85 years. He and Billy are still members of this congregation at the time of his death.Lewis is survived by his wife, Billy, 3 sons, Mike and his Wife Robin, Lewis and his wife Renee, Robert and his wife Tina Wantland, 2 stepsons, Fred, Jack and his wife Barbara McCoy, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces.Lewis was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Robert L. Wantland and Kenneth J. Wantland.Please pray for the family as they lay to rest, their husband, father, step-father, granddad, great-granddad, uncle, and friend.
