Lisa Ann McCray's Obituary
After a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer, Lisa Ann (Schmidt) McCray left this earth in the early hours of Sunday, September 23rd, surrounded by her adoring family. A devoted wife, loving mother, cherished daughter, beloved sister and compassionate friend, Lisa is survived by Robert, her husband of 24 years, and her children Jessica (Bryan) Schwab, Kayla, Kara and Michael McCray. She is also survived by her mother, Alice, and stepfather, Loyd Sutton, siblings Kenneth S. Schmidt, Kathy (Larry) Gardner, Jeanne (Dan) Smith, and Diane (Tim) Moran. She was preceded in death by her father, Kenneth, and grandparents, Jessie and Frederick Schmidt, and Eddie and Lela Guthrie. Born in Tulsa on July 25, 1961, Lisa was the youngest of the five Schmidt children. In her youth, she enjoyed spending time with her brother and sisters, especially treasuring the memories they made with their granny, Jessie. In 1992, Lisa met her husband, Robert. Together they forged a life that would take them on adventures across the United States. They established homes in Wichita, KS, Mooresville, NC, and Beaverton, OR. In 2007, they serendipitously landed back in Owasso, OK, where Lisa indulged a passion for gardening, rescuing animals and the natural world. No matter where she was, Lisa enjoyed the beauty and appreciated the uniqueness of each of the places they called home. Above all else, Lisa loved her four children. Jessica, Kayla, Kara and Michael each had the great fortune to have her at home, caring for them as her sole priority for more than a decade. Her dogs and grand-dogs held a special place in her heart as well. In Oklahoma she established membership at Memorial Drive Church of Christ and was an active volunteer in the church’s Clothes Closet for many years. Recently, she was thrilled to return to the workforce, landing a Sales Associate position at the Owasso TJ Maxx, where her coworkers lovingly nicknamed her “Store Mom”. Lisa had a great number of passions, amazing taste in music, and a great love for the Lord. Her giving spirit, generous nature, and sense of humor will be greatly missed, but her family is at peace knowing that when she left them, she was free from pain and greeted by those who love her in Heaven. Visitation will be Thursday, September 27, from 5 – 7 p.m., with services to be held on Friday, September 28, at 10 a.m. at Floral Haven (6500 S. 129th E. Ave., Broken Arrow, OK). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to All Paws Rescue, The American Cancer Society, Memorial Drive Church of Christ, or a non-profit of choice that is special to you or would have been meaningful to her.
