Lloyd Burns' Obituary
Nuel “Lloyd” Burns of Talala, Oklahoma, passed away on April 21, 2024. He fought his medical issues with characteristic stubbornness, but he ultimately left this world, surrounded by loved ones early Sunday morning. He was 75.
Born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Lloyd was born to Nuel and Gladys Burns on November 15, 1948. He married his high school sweetheart, Nancy Moren, and together they had two beloved daughters: Mary Beth and Sarah. The couple have lived in the Oologah-Talala area for over fifty years. Lloyd was a plumber by trade. He worked as a maintenance mechanic for American Airlines for 30 years before his retirement.
His hobbies always drew him to the outdoors. He loved fishing on Oologah Lake, whether he was trolling for sand bass, catching crappie on the dock with his pals, or taking his family out for an afternoon on his boat. He was an avid hunter, and he had immense knowledge and respect for every animal, tree, and plant he encountered. Lloyd’s green thumb meant that he was always in competition with his friends to see who could grow the biggest tomatoes. Lloyd always kept dog companions, both for hunting and lap-sitting. He loved his cardinals, which he’d watch from his porch, and his Cardinals, whose wins he’d brag about to anyone who would listen. Lloyd will be forever missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy, and his two daughters, Mary Beth Henry (and her husband, Dr. Rick Henry) and Sarah Burns (and Lee Gordon). Lloyd was a proud “Pa” to two grandchildren, Dr. Hannah Henry, and Reece Henry. He will also be missed by his sister-in-law, Susie Moren, her sons, and their families: John Moren (and his sons, Joel and A.J.), Mitch and Sara Moren (and their sons, Logan and Bennett), and Marc Moren.
