Lloyd Otis Gilmore's Obituary
Lloyd Otis Gilmore, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, born Tuesday, January 19, 1926 in Corsicana, Texas to his loving parents, William “Willie” Samuel Gilmore & Mattie Ruth (Basham) Gilmore; went to be with the Lord on Monday, July 11, 2016 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at home surrounded by his loving family. As a young man Lloyd served his country honorably and proudly in the United States Army in the European theater during World War II; serving under General George S. Patton and even providing transport for him across the River Rheine when his transport broke down. Serving with the 672nd Field Artillery Battalion, Lloyd assisted in keeping communications available to command during the war and used his personal skills as a trumpet player to relay orders on the battle field and even play with the United States Army band at USO dances for his fellow soldiers. After the war Lloyd returned home on the same transport ship his future father-in-law came home on after his service in World War I. Upon his return home, Lloyd went to college and received his degree in electrical engineering; after marring the love of his life in February 1952 they settled down in Fort Worth, Texas where Lloyd worked for Convair Aircraft Manufacturer for many years as an electrical engineer. Later, Lloyd and his family settled in Tulsa, Oklahoma after he accepted a position with American Airlines. Lloyd worked for American Airlines as an electrical engineer for over forty-four years before his retirement. After his retirement, Lloyd and his wife remained in Tulsa, Oklahoma; finding hobbies to enjoy such as gardening with his beloved wife, who attended to her flowers while he attended to his vegetables. Even self-educating himself in the stock market and taking up day trading and becoming so good at it he had a habit of making money when others couldn’t. But what Lloyd truly enjoyed were the memories and time he was able to share with his family, especially with family campouts together. Fond memories will always be cherished of Lloyd as he will be deeply missed by all who had their lives touched by him. Lloyd is preceded in death by his loving parents, William “Willie” & Mattie Gilmore and his dearly loved son, David Gilmore. Lloyd is survived by his beloved wife of sixty-four years, Patricia “Pat” Gilmore; his loving children, Paula Clark, Dianne Adam and Greg Gilmore; his dearly loved five grandchildren, Rachel, Daniel, Matthew, Jonathan and Joshua; his three precious great grandchildren and numerous other loving family members and friends. Services have been entrusted to Floral Haven Funeral Home, Crematory & Memorial Gardens, 6500 S 129th E Avenue; Broken Arrow, Oklahoma 74012.
