Lois Evans Davis' Obituary
Our mother was born in Webster Grove, MO the youngest of three girls, to Gustav Oscar Jensen and Othel Ivy (Candy) Jensen. The family moved from the St. Louis area to Tulsa, OK when mom was seven years old. At seventeen she married and by the time she was twenty-one, had her first three boys, Walter Eric, Gene Evans and Jay Christian Davenport. At twenty-four she divorced and did all she could to raise and provide for her boys.In 1955, her co-worker Dorothy Davis, introduced mom to her younger brother Robert who was on leave from the U.S. Navy. The two struck a spark immediately and surprisingly, were married two weeks later. Bob moved his new family to Patuxant River, MD where he was stationed. Just one year later (almost to the day) in November, mom brought another boy into the world, Robert Earl Davis. Six years later the family moved to Norfolk, VA and then to Virginia Beach, VA where all her boys grew up and graduated from high school. In 1976, our father died unexpectedly at our summer home in North Carolina. The next year mom returned to Tulsa to care for her aging parents and remained in there until 1993 when she moved to Kennewick, WA. She lived there for the next nineteen years near her youngest son Robert and his wife Frannie and their children Robert Jensen, Jacki Michelle and Emily Nichole. Throughout her early adulthood, mom was always involved in sales and was quite successful. But later, after Bob died, she became a nanny, which was truly her calling. She cared for a number of newborns but stayed on with one until she, Christian Helm, was almost ten years old, at which time mom left for WA. Though her physical strength limited her in her final years, she was able to care for one more newborn for a short time, her precious great-granddaughter, Abigail Joy Davis in 2012 and later Abby’s little sister Olivia Katherine.Mom was a member of First United Methodist Church in Kennewick where she had many friends. Crafts were one of her greatest passions; she was an amazing seamstress, she knitted numerous ‘prayer shawls’ for those in need and made some of the most beautiful quilts for someone’s baby or grandma. She was a loving and giving sole. Her other joys in life were playing on-line canasta and QVC shopping. But her biggest joy was grandchildren and her great-grandchildren.At 84, she was ready and anxious to once again, be with our dad, and on the afternoon of Saturday, April 19th, she left on her final move, to heaven.Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Martin (Bob), her parents Oscar and Othel Jensen and her daughter-in-law, Deborah Davenport. She is survived by her dear friend Evelyn Buccarelli, her sisters Pauline (and Jimmy) Nichols, and Melvine (and Paul) Thornburg, her sons, Walter (and Sue) Davenport, Gene Davenport, Jay (and Duy) Davenport and Robert (and Frannie) Davis. Her grandchildren are Jeremy, Laura and Daniel Davenport, Tiffany Davenport and Robert Jensen, Jacki and Emily Davis. She has numerous great-grandchildren and step- grandchildren she adored and she’ll always watch over.
