Lois Sweetko's Obituary
Lois Christina Sweetko, a resident of Tulsa, passed away with peace and grace on January 18, 2019 at the age of 71 after a courageous four year battle with cancer. She was born July 24, 1947 to the late Eligio Louis Zuccaro (“Louie”) and the late Pauline Babich Zuccaro at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown, Ohio. Lois grew up in Poland, Ohio the fourth of eight children. She graduated from Poland Seminary High School in 1965 and married Steve Sweetko on August 1, 1970. Her mother, father and brother Louis Zuccaro (“Louie”) precede her in death.Lois is survived by her husband Steve Sweetko of Tulsa, Okla.; daughter Christine Sweetko-Smith and husband Christopher Smith of Prairie Village, KS, son Steven Sweetko and Desi Fell of Tulsa, Okla. and daughter Sharon Whitley and husband Josh Whitley of Tulsa, Okla.; five grandchildren Henry, Isabell, Alice, Gabe and Violet; three brothers Vince Zuccaro, Jerry Zuccaro and Gene Zuccaro; three sisters Mary Garthwaite, Liz Hockenberry and Pauline Zuccaro; fourteen nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews and great grand nieces and nephews.An avid quilter, Lois also loved sewing, cooking and baking. She was a puppeteer and made her own paper mache puppets. As an adult she lived all over the country and later helped raise her grandchildren in Chicago and Tulsa. A devoted reader of the newspaper, she would read every word daily. She faced cancer with optimism and positivity. All who knew her regarded her as gentle, caring and kind. She will always be remembered as a loving wife, friend and mother whose grandchildren were her greatest blessing.A Catholic mass officiated by Rev. Mgsr. Patrick Gaalaas will be held at Floral Haven Funeral Home in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma on January 22 at 10 a.m.
