Louis M. "Torchy" Torczynski's Obituary
Louis Marion “Torchy” Torczynski was born on August 5, 1920 in Chicago, IL to Genevieve and Stephen Torczynski. He passed away 4 days after his 93rd birthday on August 9, 2013. His beloved wife, Sammie preceded him in death on May 28, 2006, just shy of their 60th wedding anniversary. Louis, affectionately known as “Torchy” lived in Tulsa, OK most of his adult life and worked as an airline mechanic for American Airlines, retiring after 40 years of continuous employment. He was passionate about his family, his Catholic faith and his fishing; he loved them all. Torchy was grateful to be a member of Alcoholics Anonymous, with nearly 29 years of continuous sobriety. Mr. Torczynski is survived by six children: Judith Reeves (Steve), Norman,OK; Rev. Nancy Taylor, Mountain Home, AR; Louis Torczynski (Patricia), The Woodlands, TX; Mary Coman (Carl), Tulsa, OK; Richard (Susan Berent) Torczynski, Farmers Branch, TX and Dom Marie Robert Torczynski, Grande Charteuse, France. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 6 great great-grandchildren. His brother, Vincent Torczynski (Iris),Chewelah, WA; his sister Genevieve Gates, Chicago, IL; and sister Loretta Torczynski, Broken Arrow, OK also remain. He is preceded in death by his wife, his parents, his sister, Dorothy Latek, and his granddaughter, Christine Coman. Torchy and Sammie were instrumental in the founding of Clear Creek Benedictine Monastery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the monastery at 5804 W. Monastery Rd., Hulbert, OK 74441. Torchy will be laid to rest beside his sweet wife, Sammie, at Floral Haven Memorial Gardens.
