Lynn W. Tennyson's Obituary
Lynn Wendell Tennyson was born August 6, 1934 in Wichita, Kansas and passed away December 18, 2015 at St. John hospital in Tulsa at the age of 81. Born to David and Vivian Tennyson in their home, which was a former train depot that had been converted into a private residence, Lynn was the 6th of 10 children. Living in the Wichita and Valley Center area the family attended the Valley Center Methodist Church where he was baptized on September 9, 1945. In September 1953, Lynn enlisted in the United State Marine Corps. After boot camp in San Diego, CA, he was shipped overseas for peacekeeping missions in Korea and Japan for one year. While in Korea he was assigned to duty in the Demilitarized Zone. Obtaining the rank of Sergeant, he was honorably discharged in September of 1956. After returning home to Wichita he worked various jobs. Lynn met his future wife, Marcene Zimmerman, on a blind date arranged by his brother and sister-in-law. They were married on November 25, 1959 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Wichita. They were married 56 years. To this union were born 3 children: Darren, Rhonda and Janel. In the early 60’s, Lynn’s employment with Martin Marietta Missile Company led them to Arizona, Colorado, South Dakota and Washington. They returned to Wichita in 1964 where they made their home. In 1972 his employment with Utility Contractors brought them to Tulsa where they have lived for 43 years. He retired in 1997. After retirement Lynn enjoyed tinkering around in the garage, doing his own car maintenance, household repairs and gardening. He enjoyed reading paperback westerns, watching western movies and NASCAR on Sunday’s. Lynn was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Owasso. He is survived by his wife, Marcene; son and daughter-in-law Darren and Carla Tennyson; daughter and son-in-law Rhonda and Jerry Burch; daughter and son-in-law Janel and Jack Wright; grandchildren, Ryan, Rebecca and Renae Tennyson and Carson Wright; brother and wife Garry and Sherry Tennyson, brother and wife Norman and Sharon Tennyson, sister Karen Browning; brother-in-law Harold Dennett; sister-in-law Rose Tennyson; sister-in-law Nina Brown; sister-in-law Beverly Zimmerman; cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Preceded in death by his parents David and Vivian Tennyson; infant brother Orville; sister Juanita Dennett; sister and husband Wanda and Kenneth Schiefelbein; brother and wife Phillip and Verla Tennyson; brother and wife Duaine and Gwen Tennyson; brother Elvin Tennyson; brothers-in-law Wayne Zimmerman and Ronald Brown. Lynn will always be remembered as a wonderful, loving husband, father and grandfather. His biggest enjoyment in life was being with his family. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Lynn’s name to Faith Lutheran Church, 9222 N. Garnett Rd., Owasso, OK 74055. Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at the Faith Lutheran Church, 9222 N. Garnett, Owasso, Oklahoma. Interment will be at Floral Haven Memorial Gardens, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
