M. C. Wigginton's Obituary
M C Wigginton, former resident of Oologah, died Monday, December 8, 2014 at the age of 92 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was born October 26, 1922 in Hodgens, Oklahoma to Calvin and Gertrude (Dedmon) Wigginton. The first of four children, nicknamed Hoss by his father, M C was raised in a loving home. In his youth, the family moved frequently to follow his fathers work as a share cropper. At the age of 11 he went to work helping his grandfather in the orchards. Later, when M C was 16, his father got him a job working at the Lincoln Power plant in Howe. That job was not only plant operations but anything that needed done, including sweeping the floors. His love of power plants was set in motion with this humble beginning. After graduating from Howe High School in 1940, M C met Mora Lee Dorrough. They were married July 29, 1944 in Howe where they settled down and began their family. M C worked at the Lincoln plant until they closed it down in 1949. A self-taught man, M C studied intently on the mechanics of generating electricity and the operation of power plants. From there he went on to work at OSU and OU starting their generating units. January of 1951, he began work with Public Service Company of Oklahoma at Elk City. His career took him to many communities in Oklahoma; Howe, Stillwater, Norman, Elk City, Washita, Tulsa and finally Oologah. He was one of the original 25 employees that started the Oologah plant in 1960. He began there as operation supervisor and retired as general manager of all four units. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, M C enjoyed spending time with his family; especially his son, grandson and great grandchildren. He spent many pleasurable hours working in his garden growing a variety of vegetables. He built his house where he could sit on his back patio and watch the power plant; always diagnosing problems when the plant made disparaging noises. M C served as a charter member of the board of directors of Lakeside State Bank, worked on the Oologah town planning committee and was a member of the Oologah Chamber of Commerce. Throughout his life M C has been a faithful member of the Methodist Church. He and Mora Lee had been members of the Oologah Methodist Church since 1960. His faith was always an important part of his life and was reflected in his generosity. After retiring in December 1985, M C and Mora Lee traveled in their motor home to many places. Their favorite destinations were Las Vegas, Branson and Tunica. In 2004, they moved to a patio home at the Baptist Retirement Village in Owasso. Surviving members are his son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Sharon Wigginton, his grandson and wife, Brian and Nicole Wigginton, great-grandchildren, Brook and Brett, all of Oologah. His sister and brother-in-law Phyllis and Ron Maggard of Tulsa, his sister-in-law Nell Pool of Tulsa. And many loving nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. Greeting him in heaven are his mother and father, his wife of 68 years Mora Lee, his sister Alva Owens and brother J D.
