Mahala Maud (Houston) Thompson's Obituary
Mahala Maud (Houston) Thompson, age 84 of Broken Arrow, passed away on September 28, 2017 peacefully at home after a courageous battle with cancer. She was the beloved wife of 67 years to Hoil Thompson.Mahala was born in Kemp, OK on March 29, 1933 and grew up in Bokchito, OK. She was the daughter and 9th child of Charles Oris and Lillie (Bohanan) Houston, an original enrollee of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma.Mahala is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Earles, Delbert, Loftis, Rudolph and James Houston, sisters Edith Sitton and Joy Rinehart.She is survived, and will be dearly missed, by beloved husband Hoil Albert Thompson; her children: son Michael Thompson, and wife Billie Jean; daughter Karen Russell and husband Richard; grandchildren: Jennifer Russell; Jessica Pesch and husband, James; Kyle Thompson and wife, Carly; Tyler Thompson and wife, Whitney; Great-Grandchildren: Hunter, Jayce, Cooper, Cash, Emery and Vivian; sisters: Vivian Tyler and Wynette Colvin; brother C.O. Houston; and many nieces and nephews.Mahala was a beautician and owned her own beauty salon. She was an incredible wife and a wonderful mother. She loved to cook, play the piano, paint, crochet, quilt and knit. She was an active member and past President of the Wagner County Home Extension Club, an enrolled member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, and world traveler. She was a very generous person and in recent years, she knitted over 100 hats to donate to cancer patients.Visitation will be Sunday, October 1, 2017, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Floral Haven Funeral Home Visitation Suites.A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Bethany Free Will Baptist Church on Monday, October 2, 2017 at 1:00 PM.
