Malini was born on February 9, 1944 in Limbdi, India in the state of Gujarat to parents Amichand Tarachand and Sushila Gandhi. She was the fourth of eight children among Chitranjan, Pravin, Ramesh, Dollar, Janak, Bharati and Bharat. On February 10, 1965 she married Chandrakant Harilal Shah in India. Less than 6 years and 2 children later (Darshi and Bina), the family moved to the US to Pennsylvania. A promotion led to a move to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where Chandrakant and Malini have lived over the past 40 years. During those years they welcomed 2 more children, Jill and Rakesh, to complete their family. Malini’s primary goal was to raise her children with family and educational values, taking care of her loving in-laws Kantaben and Harilal Shah and hosting many families from India to ensure they settled well in the US. She worked at the elementary school to spend more time with her children, and helped manage a number of the family businesses. What made her happiest was spending time with her family, especially her 5 grandchildren: Jivanni, Zubin, Zamir, Nikhil, and Ajay. On May 12, 2016, Malini went to the hospital to have surgery on her neck that would relieve pressure on her spinal cord. The surgery would presumably prevent her from damaging the spinal cord which could have led to paralysis or even death. Unfortunately, post surgery complications left her paralyzed from the neck down including not having the ability to breathe on her own. She subsequently had to be put on a ventilator to allow her time to breathe on her own and show signs of movement below the neck. She fought hard and admirably but her breathing function did not improve. She sensed her time to transition to her next life had come and on Saturday May 28, 2016 with her entire family at her side, she peacefully passed away. She knew it was going to be her last day and she calmly and valiantly took on her passing without shedding tears. She looked at us as if to say “Don’t worry about me. My time has come and it’s time for you to let go. I am ready for ‘Bhagwan na ghar’ (God’s house)”. Malini Chandrakant Shah is survived by her husband, four children, five grandchildren and five siblings, and was preceded in death by her parents, Sushila and Amichand and brothers, Chittranjan and Dollar. A celebration of her life and a chance to say goodbye will be held at Floral Haven Funeral Home in the Rose Chapel on June 4th at 10:30 AM. There is no dress code requirement, but family will be wearing light and dark clothes. The family is grateful for the condolences and we welcome the gift of continued support and prayers. If desired, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made towards the Veerayatan Compassion in Action Charity at https://veerayatan.org. For out of town guests and family, the Tulsa Jain community will be honoring Malini at an early dinner at the Jain Derasar on Saturday, June 4 at 3:30pm. The Jain Derasar is at 6922 South Utica Avenue; Tulsa, OK 74136. Thank you to all who have supported and helped us through this difficult time..
