Marcia A. Cannon-Hames' Obituary
Marcia Cralle Cannon Hames died peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones, on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at the age of 89. She was born in Springfield MO, the youngest of five children to Dr. Walter O. Cralle and Marian Brooks Cralle. Her greatest joy in life was her family and she was known as “Meemaw” to all of her grandchildren. Marcia graduated with honors from Oklahoma University before her 20th birthday. She later married an OU law graduate, Gailen Cannon. They raised three children and were happily married for 39 years until his death. Very active in their churches in Oklahoma City, Richardson TX, and Tulsa OK, they had much in common with their pastor in Richardson and Tulsa, Leslie Hames and his wife Doris. The couple had mirror image families with three children of the same ages who grew up together from church nursery through High School. Marcia lost Gailen to cancer in 1990. Leslie had lost Doris a couple years earlier in 1988, They both lived in Tulsa but attended different churches. With many friends in common and both retired, but still active in their churches, Marcia and Leslie renewed their friendship. Friendship became romance and the two were married in 1992. Both had health challenges and they had no idea whether they would have much time together. But they traveled, continuing their life-long learning experiences, and shared their wisdom and laughter with friends and family for 24 years. Serving admirably as surrogate grandparents to each others’ grandchildren, they have celebrated the trials and triumphs of each one them. The warmth, humor, and respect they shared has enriched the lives of everyone they met. The grace they have shown in facing and accepting life’s challenges is a testament to their truly Christian values. Marcia was preceded in death by her daughter, Susan, who was still-born at full term, her son-in-law Christopher Kimbrough, her sister Theodicia Prickett, brother Walter Cralle Jr., and brother Stratton Cralle. She is survived by husband Leslie H. Hames, sister Marian Anderson, her son Brooks Cannon and wife Melissa, daughter Nancy LeGrange and husband Dannie, and daughter Melissa. Her grandchildren and their spouses are Danielle and Curtis Tackett, Summer and Kevin O’Brien, Wade and Chelsea Cannon, and Jessica Cannon. Marcia had known Leslie’s children all of their lives and eagerly counted his grandchildren as her own. His children are son Mark Hames and wife Kim, daughter Meredith Miller and husband Mike, son Paul Hames and wife Jennifer. His grandchildren are Matt Hames and wife Jordan, Dylan Hames, Tyler Miller and wife Jennifer, Tanner Miller and wife Liz, Megan Cronk and husband Buddy with great grandchild Addison, Jordan Hames, Chase Hames, Harrison Hames, and LilyAnn Hames. Marcia’s extended family includes Steve Swearengin and his children Whitney and Logan, as well as Willie LeGrange and wife Chelsea, and their daughter Piper. Marcia also loved and followed closely the lives of her many nieces and nephews. With apologies to those not named here, please know that she was proud of her family and delighted in hearing from them, and would eagerly recount stories about them to anyone who would listen. She devoted her life to her family and many friends and will be missed by all.
