Margaret Jane Couch's Obituary
Margaret Jane Couch, 86, known as Jane to most and Janey to those closest, was born in Maryville, TN on July 30, 1938 to parents, Fred & Ada Mitchell. She was born & raised in the mountains of Tennessee and a part of her will always remain in the Smokies. She was taught by her father a love of music and was a very talented pianist, playing until the last few months of her life. Some musicians said she was the best gospel pianist they ever knew. Her grandfather was a circuit preacher who spread the word of God via horseback in the mountains of Tellico Plains. Her earliest memories involved church and music where she learned to love both. She met the love of her life (62 year marriage), Richard Wesley Couch, at the Dallas Singing School which prompted Richard to attend the University of Tennessee to work towards a PhD. She later earned a Masters in Music Education and earned elementary certification. She taught elementary education at Oral Roberts University in a part time capacity. She went on to create and institute the elementary gifted program at Jenks Public Schools and is well remembered for her decades of teaching.
Jane Couch was a wonderful mother, wife, teacher and mentor, and never wavered in her faith. She was and will always be our rock and will be greatly missed. Life simply won’t be the same.
Jane Couch is survived by her two daughters, Juli Couch and Catherine Klehm, her son-in-law Philip Klehm, her ex-son-in-law, Clive Johnstone four grandchildren, Aren and Lauren Johnstone and Wesley and Mitchell Klehm. A service is to be held Friday, March 28, 2025, 10 am at Victory Christian Center 1st Floor Chapel, 7700 S Lewis Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made towards the purchase of Bibles at Gideons International at www.gideons.org in memory of Richard & Jane Couch.
