Peggy Gwartney's Obituary
Margaret Elizabeth “Peggy” Gwartney, age 67, of Collinsville, Oklahoma, passed away on Monday, December 15, 2025. Born on December 1, 1958, in Inglewood, California, Margaret was known to all who loved her as Peggy—a name that perfectly reflected her warmth, approachability, and joyful spirit.
Peggy was the daughter of Guy Amey and Lorraine Ramy. As the oldest sibling, she took on responsibility early in life, helping care for her sisters, Donna and Susie, and her brother, Carl—a role that shaped her lifelong compassion and strong sense of family.
She attended Bishop Kelley High School and went on to earn her college education at the University of Tulsa. Peggy built a successful career as a Certified Public Accountant and Chief Financial Officer, later transitioning into semi-retirement. She lived in Tulsa for most of her life before making Collinsville her home for the past 16 years.
On May 17, 1980, Peggy married the love of her life, Steve Gwartney, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Together they shared a life full of laughter, travel, and togetherness, including traveling the country in their motorhome. Peggy’s favorite destinations were always beaches—any place where the sand met the sea.
Peggy found her greatest joy in her family. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, and the very best Gigi to her granddaughters, Stella and Gwen. Watching them play volleyball was one of her greatest pleasures, and she was proudly their biggest cheerleader. She treasured time spent making pierogies with Stella and baking chocolate chip cookies with Gwen.
Peggy loved hosting family and friends, opening her home at every opportunity and making everyone feel welcomed and deeply loved. Game nights were a favorite—Yahtzee, dominoes, Farkle, and Tenzi were always in rotation. She also enjoyed reading, making jewelry, listening to music (especially with her sister), and sending thoughtful cards to family and close friends for birthdays or during times of need.
Known for her kindness and generosity, Peggy had a laugh so infectious that friends say they can hear it even through photographs. She called everyone “sweetheart” or “honey,” and she truly meant it. She was caring, compassionate, intelligent, hardworking, and a natural leader—someone who listened deeply and gave fully of herself.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Guy Amey and Lorraine Ramy; her son, Steven Gwartney; and her parents-in-law, Arnold and Wilhelmina Gwartney.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Steve Gwartney; her son, Matthew Gwartney; daughter-in-law, Carly Gwartney; cherished granddaughters, Stella and Gwen Gwartney; sisters, Donna Dye and Susie Gragg; and brother, Carl Amey.

Funeral services will take place Monday, December 22, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Floral Haven, with Don Sedwick officiating.

A reception will be held immediately following the graveside service at the Floral Haven Family Center.
Pallbearers will be Ben Gragg, Randy Gwartney, Thomas Hercheck, and Trenton Hercheck.
Peggy will be remembered as loving, generous, kind, supportive, fun-loving, compassionate, charismatic, intelligent, and always upbeat. She was the best wife, the best mother, the best Gigi, and simply—the best.
