Margaret Wade Hellwege's Obituary
Margaret Wade Hellwege, age 76, resident of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, passed away in her home surrounded by family on February 4, 2023. She was born on Oct. 9th, 1946 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to George and Marianne Palmer who preceded her in death along with brother Mike Palmer of OKC. She is survived by her sister Marilyn Palmer of NC, daughters Kristina Johnson and husband Aubrey Johnson of Tulsa, Karen Wollard and her husband Jeremy Wollard of Spring, TX., and Robert Barr and his wife Cindy Barr of Shelby County, Alabama. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren, Taylor and Alec Brown of Tulsa, Nathaniel, Serena, and Kylie Wollard of Spring, TX., and Jake Barr and wife Katelyn of Chelsea, Alabama, and Lucy Barr of Chelsea, Alabama, her cat Trixie, nieces, nephews and many close friends.
Maggie graduated from Midwest City High School in 1964. She played clarinet and was a majorette for the MWC bomber band. She was also a gifted ballet dancer and taught ballet for many years. She attended Oklahoma College of Liberal Arts in Chickasha where she met and was married to Stephen Hellwege from 1966 to 1975. Maggie moved back to MWC in 1980 and worked at Tinker Air Force Base until 1985, then transferred to Army Corp of Engineers in Tulsa. She received many rewards and honors including the Commander's Award for Civilian Services for her exceptional service as the Tulsa District Federal Women's program Manager. She retired as an Equal Employment Opportunity Specialist in 2012.
Maggie was a cancer survivor yet lost her battle to COPD. Her free spirited life was filled with love, creativity, talent, and magic. She was a dancer, a dreamer and a poet, who loved the moon, the beach and the mountains. She collected fairies, sea glass, sea shells, driftwood and tiny boxes and absolutely lived life to the fullest.
A "Celebration of Life" service will be held at The Embassy event center, 7100 E. 31st St. Tulsa, Ok 74145 on Saturday the 11th. Gathering begins 1:30, service begins at 2:00pm.
