Marie Miller's Obituary
Marie Miller, 89, of Tulsa, died on Thursday, May 1, 2014. She was born on September 29, 1924, the daughter of Loren and Clyda McMurry Davis, and was raised on a farm outside Ryan, Oklahoma. After attending Draughon’s Business College in Oklahoma City, she met and married Harold Miller, where soon after they moved to Connecticut. Marie worked as a secretary for Edgecomb Steel of New England so that she could help support her and Harold as he attended graduate school at Yale. Upon graduation, they moved to Amarillo, Texas, where their first son, Christopher Paul was born, and she made the decision to become a full-time homemaker. Just before Harold took a job in Tulsa, they welcomed their daughter, Lezlie Anne. Their family became complete with the birth of their second son, Patrick Harold. Along with having the responsibility of being the Chief Operating Officer of the Miller house on 27th Street, she was very active in her community where she became a founding member of the Magic Empire Artists in Tulsa. Marie had an eye for water-color and oil-based paintings and soon became an established painter and potter. In 1972, Marie and Harold became Grand Lake week-enders where you would see her fishing from the dock, reading a mystery novel or having a glass of wine or a margarita with family and friends on the deck. She was always ready to throw her hand in at a game of bridge, poker or marbles and took great pride in her ability to bluff her opponent. When Harold retired, he and Marie would travel the United States in a motor home, while spending winters in Casa Grande, Arizona and perfecting their golf game. She drew much inspiration from her time traveling with Harold, stopping to take a picture of an old barn or a valley floor from atop the Rocky Mountains. Marie also enjoyed camping and traveling with her family during these years. Marie was well known for her kind demeanor, her ability to love people unconditionally, and for making a mean chocolate cake. Marie is survived by her loving husband, Harold Miller, three children, Chris Miller, and his wife, Cindy, of Perth, Australia, Lezlie Colwell, and her husband, David, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Pat Miller, and his wife, Kelley, of Derby, Kansas, eight grandchildren, Brittany Taylor, Omaha, Nebraska, Lauren Spencer, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Lisa Irvin, Durham, North Carolina, Christine Miller, Austin, Texas, Alex Miller, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Catherine Miller, Stillwater, Oklahoma, Kari Colwell, Stillwater, Oklahoma, and Tori Miller, Derby, Kansas, great granddaughter, Hallie Spencer, and numerous other family members and friends.
