Marie H. Savage's Obituary
Marie Hamblin Savage was born Ada Marie Hamblin January 3, 1923 in Sawyer, Kentucky. She hated the name Ada and legally changed her name. She was one of nine children and the final survivor. We are pretty certain her stubbornness kept her on earth the longest.Marie had a great fondness for men. She found true love twice; Charles W. Fitch and Garth D. Savage. During her dementia there was talk of a third husband but we don’t believe this to be true. Most recently she flirted with the doctors, EMT’s and firemen asking them to visit more often and to take her home with them. She graduated at 16 years old from McCreary County High School then attended the University of Tulsa. During World War II she joined the civil service and was stationed in Germany. Rumors have been plentiful that she was a spy for the US but we can neither confirm or deny that. She married Charles W. Fitch in 1953 but was widowed two years after their nuptials. She then negotiated the purchased of land surrounded by Daniel Boone National Forrest, Kentucky from 71 Hamblin heirs and built a resort called Moonbow. It was located near Cumberland Falls, Kentucky. In 1962 she married Garth D. Savage, and her only child Anna Marie Savage was born 14 months later. She sold the resort in 1970 to dedicate her time to her husband, daughter and management of residential rental properties they owned in Oklahoma. In 1980 Garth retired prompting Marie and Garth to begin this era of traveling by leaving their daughter, a senior in high school, home to work and go to school (yes I am still a tad bit bitter) to visit Disney World Resorts. Marie told Garth that she retired, too and true to her word she never did another load of laundry or dishes while he was alive. Housekeeping was not her strength anyway. In 1990 they took their dream trip a six month trip to Alaska (where Marie out fished everyone). For more than 20 years they were retired together and sometimes even in harmony.Marie was an avid reader, painter, a founding member of South Grand Lake Christian Church, and a Girl Scout Leader. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Anna Marie and Erik K. Davidson, two grandchildren Hayley Reid and Cameron Lachlan Savage Davidson, many nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family would also like to thank the Carter Hospice staff who took great care of her and them.In lieu of flowers donations to Clarehouse Hospice, 7617 South Mingo, Tulsa, OK 74133, Girl Scouts of Eastern Oklahoma, 4810 S. 129th East Avenue, Tulsa, OK 74146 and Meals on Wheels 11620 E. 31st Street, Tulsa, OK 74146.There will be a Celebration of Life on October 15, 2016 at 2 pm at the lake house located at 421 Kiawa Drive, Eucha, OK 74342.
