Marilyn Edith Julian's Obituary
Marilyn Edith West Julian, 72, of Broken Arrow, passed from this life on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 in Tulsa, OK. Marilyn was born on December 9, 1939 in Chicago, IL. She was the daughter of Albert and Dorothy West. Her father passed away in 1995 and she is survived by her mother who provided comfort and love to her until the end. She was the second of four children. She is survived by her older sister Barbara Merutka and younger brother David. Her younger sister Sally died when in her teens. She accepted Jesus Christ as her savior when she was eight years old at Addison Heights Bible Church in Chicago. She had many childhood friends, both in Chicago and in Mountain Home, AR where she moved with her family when she was fourteen. She graduated from Mountain Home High School where she was the head majorette in the Bomber Marching Band. Her high school friends included Mamie Gardener and Patsy Summers. She and Patsy would become sister-in-laws when they married the Benedict brothers Danny and David. She married Danny Lee Benedict and together they had four sons; Jeff, Joel, Jonathan, and Jay. She was married to James McGuire and together they had one daughter Julia. She had one adopted son Jordan, and provided love and care to dozens of foster children. She had 16 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Marilyn received her bachelor's degree from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, OK. She was a Registered Nurse and a RN Red Cross volunteer. She devoted much of her life to caring for patients in four states; Arkansas, Tennessee, Pennsylvania and Oklahoma. Children were her greatest source of joy. She was happiest when she had a child perched on her lap. She was always active in all of her children's activities and pursuits. She was the ultimate soccer mom and a Cub Scout den mother. It can't be overemphasized how great a mother she was. Marilyn was a member of the First Baptist Church of Broken Arrow. A special thank you to the caring and comforting staff of Clarehouse in Tulsa and to Dr. Schwam, Christa, Jan, and the other nurses and doctors of St. John's Hospice. Three words that sum up Marilyn's life... loving, protective, and strength. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, June 1, 2012 at the First Baptist Church of Broken Arrow, followed by a graveside service at Floral Haven Funeral Home. Friends unable to attend the memorial service on Friday are welcome to join the family viewing on Thursday evening between the hours of 7:00 ' 9:00 PM at Floral Haven Funeral Home.
