Hammons, Marilyn Kay Allen's Obituary
Marilyn Hammons, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2025, just shy of her 90th birthday. Marilyn lived a life defined by kindness, dedication, and an appreciation for the simple joys that made each day meaningful.
She began her career as the neighborhood Avon lady, bringing beauty and confidence to those around her, and with hard work and determination, she became a respected district manager. Her entrepreneurial spirit led her to own Unique Ideas, a fashion accessories business that reflected her creativity and passion for style.
Marilyn’s heart for service was evident in every facet of her life. She dedicated time as a Girl Scout assistant leader, instilling values of leadership and camaraderie in young girls, and she found fulfillment as a Meals on Wheels volunteer, ensuring others were cared for and nourished.
Her love of gardening transformed her home into a sanctuary of color and life, and one could always find her with a book in hand—historical fiction being her favorite. The library was one of her cherished places, and she lovingly passed on her passion for reading to her children and grandchildren, sharing countless stories that sparked curiosity and imagination.
Marilyn treasured life’s simple pleasures—good, hot coffee and a scoop of ice cream always made her day a little sweeter. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
She is survived by her sister, Sherry; her daughter, Susan Rene; her son, Jeff Thomas, and his wife Lisa; her beloved grandchildren, Bradley Thomas, Brent Allen and Elizabeth, Emily Page, and Tegan Lynn; her great-grandchildren, Victoria Rose and Eli Allen; and her niece, Connie.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ada Frances and Edward Westerfield Allen; her sisters, Marsha and Jo; and her loving husband, Jerry Hammons.
Marilyn’s legacy of love, generosity, and warmth will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
