Marilynn Holmes' Obituary
Jean Holmes was the only daughter of John and Irene Holmes. Her father was a Veterinarian and a LTC in the U.S. Army. Jean was very patriotic all her life and a had a tremendous love for people and for animals.
A graduate of Mills College, Jean’s Crest quote was, “After a while…And we will go thither, yon, and to and fro,” proved to be a hallmark of her life as she visited ten countries on three continents and lived in nine states.
Jean spent time pursuing Chinese studies but changed her professional degree to law when she discovered it would take twelve years to complete a Ph.D. in Chinese. Her first job as an attorney was as an Administrative Law Judge, holding hearing for the Kentucky Department of Transportation. She was known as, “The Little Judge”.
She moved to Tulsa, OK in 1981 to teach at Oral Roberts University Law School. She had a Christian radio program teaching the Word and encouraging believers. In 1988, she went to work for the law firm of Winters and King as an appellate practitioner. She had great respect for Mike King and Tom Winters. She retired from Winters and King in 2012. She continued to practice law privately until her passing on October 14, 2022
Jean was a wise woman of great integrity. She was a dedicated disciple of Jesus Christ. After her retirement, Jean focused her time on multiple prayer groups, she was an active Retreat Leader, “Care Bear,” with Hope Renewal and Stillwater’s Ministries for 18 years. She taught Bible studies in her home on faith and enjoyed writing numerous books. She loved to laugh, and often said the God of Isaac is the God of laughter. She was known for her ‘fun’ dinner parties at her home and for bringing people together. Jean has left this world for heaven too soon; she will be greatly missed.
Jean is survived by one brother, Dr. James M. Holmes, (who resides in Buffalo, NY and is an Emeritus Professor of Economics at the University of Buffalo), one nephew, Michael one niece, Elizabeth and numerous friends.
