Marjorie B. Hughes' Obituary
HUGHES, MARJORIE B. – passed away on Monday, December 6, 2010 at Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale, AR. Marjorie was born on June 12, 1928 to Floyd and Zelma Hunter in Labette, KS. She was raised in the Labette and Parsons, KS area and graduated from Labette County Community High School, Altamont KS in 1945. Marjorie married her high school sweetheart, Larson C. Hughes, on April 2, 1945 in Independence, KS and was married for 64 years until Larson’s death in October 2009. They made their home in Tulsa, OK following Larson’s discharge from the U.S. Army Air Force. Marjorie performed secretarial work for Spartan School of Aeronautics until the birth of her first daughter and thereafter devoted her attention to her home and family. Marjorie was an avid and meticulous seamstress who loved to read in her spare time. She was a superb cook and took great care in preparing delectable meals for family and church functions. A member of Rose Hill United Methodist Church for 60 years, Marjorie served as Treasurer for JOY Circle and held various offices within the United Methodist Women’s Organization. Marjorie is survived by daughter Susan Jones, and husband Jim of Steinhatchee, FL; daughter Sandra Martinkewiz and husband Alan of Garfield, AR; granddaughter Angela Wise of Las Vegas, NV; grandson David Martinkewiz of Houston, TX; granddaughter Julie Martinkewiz of Midland, TX. Her parents and husband precede her in death. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 10 at 11 a.m. at Rose Hill United Methodist Church with the family receiving friends at the church parlor beginning at 10 a.m. Burial will follow the service at Floral Haven Cemetery, Broken Arrow. Memorial gifts may be made to either Rose Hill United Methodist Church or Circle of Life Hospice Building Fund, Springdale, AR.
