Martha was born October 15, 1932, in Sallisaw, OK, to Nealy and Estral (Person) Long. It was Nealy’s job at Douglas Aircraft Company that brought them to Tulsa, OK. Martha worked part time at Kress’s Department Store in downtown Tulsa. It was there that she met Murphy Jones and they began dating. It wasn’t long before they fell in love and started talking about marriage. Martha graduated from Central High School in May, 1950. On Monday, June 12, 1950, seventeen-year-old Martha snuck out of the house and took a taxi to the bus depot where she met Murphy. They traveled by bus to Bentonville, AR, where they were married. Martha sent a telegram to her parents and returned to Tulsa the very same day. In 1951, Murphy and Martha began having a family and eventually launched the Murphy Jones Moving Company, where she served as CEO.
Martha was preceded in death her husband Murphy in 2015, her parents Nealy and Estral Long, brother Freddie Jay Long, and sister Sharon Kay McConnell.
