I loved Marty. He was a great friend and I will never forget the wonderful times we had together.
Marty was a good friend. He and his brother Steve helped me many times and in many ways with my landscape business throughout the years and I'm thankful to him.

I never knew Marty but I knew Mary Carolyn at Kelley, along with the Johnston boys. I hope she sees this note, I am so sorry to hear about your loss, I hope you can find the strength to cope.Jim Enright, Dallas
Marty was a true fried and mentor to me. I love him with all my heart for all he did for me in my times of need. No better man has ever walked this earth.
Marty was such a gentle manly man. He was always so lovely. I loved how he lite up when Jan walked into the room and the room lite up because he walked in. I'm so sorry for the whole family. He will leave a big hole- a little pun intended as he would have enjoyed that.
Our friend Marty is suddenly gone. We knew him only seven years but will miss him as one of the few who touched our consciousness and seemed a permanent fixture in our lives. As friends older than he, we never considered that he might go first. We will remember him in the silence that will now exist north of our boundary fence. No more will we hear his little tractor mowing around his property, no more his chain saw cutting firewood for his fireplace, no more the drone of his woodworking tools in his shop. No more will we see him in the morning loading equipment and supplies on his truck for a day's work beautifying someone's yard. His presence will live long in the countless trees, shrubs, flowers and water features he planted and constructed in hundreds of places around Green Country and the students with whom he shared his knowledge. We will miss his gentle jokes and dry humor on Friday nights when we usually played dominoes with him and Jan. He was a proud father who spoke often and fondly of his children and glowed when giving reports of his new grandchildren. He was a good neighbor, eager to help when help was needed. We will miss him. Charles and Renee Schwabe (neighbors).
My fondest memory of Marty will forever be the gentle smile on his face, and his patience with all of us bombarding his home for the ILP. Some of us did it every week for a year, and he never acted like we were the royal pain that we actually were. Night after night, week after week, and month after month, he just rolled with the moment. He was, and will remain, an inspiration.
