Marvin Estil Black's Obituary
Marvin Estil “Junior” Black (78) passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at his home in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
Marvin was born on August 2, 1945 to Marvin Estil Black, Sr. and Elva Black in Meade, Kansas. Before settling in Meade, the Black also resided in Newton, Dodge City, and Wichita, Kansas. Marvin and his older sisters, Marvina and Barbara, went to schools in Meade. During high school he played baseball, basketball, and football. Marvin graduated from Mead High School in 1963. He continued his education at Pittsburg State University graduating in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science in Education. He also began a family and moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, but commuted several days a week to Pittsburg State to complete his Master of Science in 1974.
Marvin settled his family in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma which is where he taught 7th grade Life Science at Sequoyah Middle School and was a beloved football and wrestling coach. During his teaching career, Marvin started a second career as a realtor which he would continue until retirement, first from teaching and then from real estate. Outside of work Marvin had many passions. He loved gardening and could turn any yard into an oasis. He generously shared the vegetables he grew with family and friends. He loved fishing later in life and would have wonderful fish fries for those close to him. Marvin was equally at home behind the grill or in the kitchen cooking up one of his many stews.
He was most passionate about the Kansas Jayhawks and their teams especially men’s basketball-“Rock Chalk, Jayhawk!” He enjoyed spending quality time with close friends, especially Bunny Blalack his companion of 25 years.
Marvin is survived by his three children, Kimberly (Kurt) Dudenhoeffer, Brady Black, and Joe (Sandy) Black, two sisters, Marvina Jones and Barbara Ross, seven grandchildren, Haleigh Black, Lindsey (Keith) Davis, Kellie (Chris) Crews, Kourtney (Josh) Arnett, Mackenzie (Garrett) Baker, Natalie Black, Paige Black, two great grandchildren, Kayden Davis and Karson Davis.
He is preceded in death by his mother Elva and father Estil.
