Marvin Edward Stunkard's Obituary
Marvin “Bud” Stunkard, 86, passed away October 13, 2019 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 2, 1932 in Tulsa, Oklahoma in his grandma’s upstairs bedroom to Dorothy and Harold Stunkard. He spent his childhood working on the family farm. From the time he was seven years old, he would haul water to the fields on his horse, Shorty. At the age of nine, he began single handedly moving cattle from his grandparents’ farm to their summer pasture across town. The strong work ethic and knowledge of farming that he developed at an early age set him up for a unique position when he later served in the U.S. Army from 1952-1954 during the Korean Conflict. He was tasked with converting rice fields into runways under the direction of the U.S. Air Force. Upon his return to Oklahoma, he began working as a maintenance engineer at Hillcrest Hospital. Shortly after, he moved to Saint Francis one month before their grand opening in October of 1960. Bud worked for Saint Francis for 34 years, eventually becoming the Director of Building Services.Bud was an avid fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed many trips to Colorado with his friends and wife. He also enjoyed taking his children and grandchildren on various camping and road trips.Bud is survived by his wife, Linda, son Mark Stunkard and wife KayLynn, daughter Sue Forman, granddaughter Lisa Steele and husband Jacob, grandsons Danny Stunkard and wife Vanessa and Jake Stunkard and wife Toya, great-grandchildren Elizabeth, Elijah, Ezekiel, and soon-to-be-born Coy, and brother Jim Stunkard. Bud is preceded in death by his parents Dorothy and Harold, sister Mary, and grandson David.A celebration of life service will be held at Floral Haven on Friday, October 18, 2019 at 12:30.
