Mary Lou Bennett, a beloved Tulsa artist, died Saturday the 16th of November at the age of 81.Born on the 2nd day of March 1938 in Sallisaw, Oklahoma to Gladys and Bill Stephens. Mary Lou grew to be a talented artist painting murals throughout Oklahoma and Mexico for the entirety of her life, spreading color and beauty wherever her adventures took her.She is survived by her brothers Doyle, Bob, and Jim Stephens, her daughters Nima and Leta Bennett, and her grandchildren Andrew Tankersley, Lillian Phillips, and Katie Bennett.“My wild, artistic, restless grandmother passed away this week. My last grandparent. My fondest memories of our time together always involved creativity and personal expression and a lack of inhibition.She used to spend her free time painting the storm sewer manhole covers on Riverside and I was lucky enough to accompany her a handful of times to try my hand at creating murals from my imagination.She is finally at peace and I could not be more relieved.”-Andrew TankersleyThe family will be having a closed service in Sallisaw, Oklahoma.
