Mary Lou Black's Obituary
Mary Lou Armstrong Black, 88, passed away Saturday, June 15, 2019 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was born November 10, 1930 in Tishomingo, Oklahoma to Essie Mabel and Forrest Neill Armstrong. She graduated from Oklahoma A & M in 1952 where she was a proud member of Pi Beta Phi. After meeting in college, she married the love of her life, Thomas O. Black, Jr. in July 1952. They started Tom’s career with Cities Service Oil Company, and after several moves finally settled in Tulsa in 1963. Throughout the years, Mary Lou was involved in the Junior Board of Tulsa Cerebral Palsy Association, the Assistance League of Tulsa, Pi Beta Phi Alumnae Club, PEO, Kiwanitas, and was an active member of New Haven United Methodist Church. Mary Lou lived her life by her example of grace, sweetness, courage, and style and leaves behind many close friends who will miss her dearly. It is comforting for all who knew and loved her that she is with the angels in heaven, adoring God.She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Tom; daughters, Cynthia Bryant and husband, Joe, and Megan Zimmerman and husband, Joe. In addition to her husband and two daughters, Mary Lou is survived by her four loving granddaughters, who lovingly referred to her as “Missy”. They include Whitney Bryant Rahim and her husband, Anand, and their two children, Caroline and Hugh; Paige Bryant Bryce and her husband, Joey, and their two children, Peyton and Sterling; Hayley Zimmerman Creecy and her husband, Chris, and their daughter, Harper; and Abby Zimmerman Stevens and her husband, Nathan. She loved watching her family grow and was eagerly anticipating the arrival of two new great-grandsons.A celebration of her life is scheduled for Wednesday, June 19, at 1:00 p.m. in the Warren Chapel at Montereau, 6800 South Granite Avenue, Tulsa, Oklahoma. Reception immediately following the service in the Villa. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that you consider making a donation to the charity of your choice in Mary Lou’s memory.
