Mary Carol Harris' Obituary
Mary Carol Hedges Harris was born December 22, 1937 in Hot Springs Arkansas. As a Christmas baby she was named Mary Carol. She graduated from Ponca City High School in 1955. After high school, Carol became a nurse and worked for some pediatricians in the Tulsa area. An early marriage produced three children. After a successful career as a nurse, she graduated from The University of Tulsa and became an educator for Tulsa Public Schools where she was employed for thirty years. She taught at Hamilton Middle School, McLain High School, and Webster High School. Throughout her teaching career, she served as class sponsor, Student Council sponsor and as department chair of Social Studies. Carol spent summers writing curriculum for Tulsa Public Schools. She won numerous local, state, and national awards for teaching. Carol was an active researcher and writer. One of the books she did research and writing for, Oklahoma's Blending of Many Cultures was the official state book for the bi-centennial celebration of our country.After a brief, battle with cancer, she passed away on December 6, 2012. Carol was preceded in death by her father, Earl and her mother, Helen Hedges. She is survived by her children, Phil, his wife Sarah, and Cindy all of Tulsa, and Kristi of Houston. She is also survived by her grandson, Jackson, her sister and brother-in-law, Earlene and James Nicola, their two children; her cousins and numerous friends. The world was made better with Carol having been in it.Services will be Saturday, December 15, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. Forest Park Christian Church, 9102 South Mingo Road Tulsa, OK 74133.
