Mary Elizabeth Lee's Obituary
Mary Elizabeth Lee was born on August 8, 1930 in Hume, Missouri to Kenneth and Minnie Spratt. She died on July 14, 2026 at 95 years of age. She grew up on the family farm in Hume with her parents and younger sister, Lila. Her grandparents lived just across the road and she was often at their home.
Mary attended school in Hume and graduated from Hume High school in 1948. She attended college in Warrensburg, Missouri for one term and then taught school in a one-room school for a short time before marrying J.R. Lee on January 23,1949. They celebrated 74 years of loving marriage before J.R.’s death in January, 2023.
Four children were born to this union: Kenneth, Teresa, Steven and Peggy. Kenneth died shortly after his birth. The family lived in Hume, Missouri; Pittsburg, Kansas; and Tulsa, Oklahoma. Mary was actively involved in Grace Methodist Church in Pittsburg; Town and Country Christian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma and Inola Christian Church in Inola, Oklahoma. She was known for her faithfulness to the Lord, her commitment to the church, her marvelous desserts, and her friendly spirit.
Mary loved her family and enjoyed making a home for J.R. and their children. Her holiday dinners were legendary. She doted on her six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and her four great-great-grandchildren.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband J.R.; her parents; son Kenneth; granddaughter Becky; and sister and brother-in-law Lila and Don Renken. She is survived by her children, Teresa Bussey (Mark); Steve (Claudia); and Peggy Compton (Rick). She is also survived by five grandchildren Jennifer Faddis (Kent), Chad Compton (Jaime), Kristin Williams (Chris), Matthew Bussey and Joni Lee; eight great-grandchildren (Amity, Kaylee, Dara, Emma, Helen, Ava, Patrick, Jayce); and four great-great-grandchildren (Tobias, Roscoe, Sadie, Miles). She also loved her six nieces and two nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 20 at 10am at Inola Christian Church with Jim Page officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory are encouraged to Inola Christian Church Youth Fund; Inola Christian Church; P.O. Box 782; Inola, OK 74036.
