Mary Long's Obituary
Mary Lou Long, age 92, passed away on January 4, 2026, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was born on February 17, 1933, in Claremore, Oklahoma, to Dallas Allen and Etta Mae McElwain.
Mary grew up in Claremore, OK. After graduating from Claremore High School, she moved to Tulsa and began working for the phone company. She later met the love of her life, Bob (Bobby Ray) Long. The two were married on September 2, 1953, in Claremore, beginning a devoted marriage that spanned 71 years.
Mary was known for her outgoing personality, warm heart, and sweet spirit. She never met a stranger and had a gift for making others feel welcome. This was especially evident during her time at Legend Assisted Living, where she became known as the “welcoming committee,” greeting new residents with kindness and conversation. She enjoyed participating in the games, crafts, other activities, and spending time with friends she had made at Legend.
Mary was a devoted and loving mother, who had accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior in the late 1950’s. She rarely missed an opportunity to watch her children and grandchildren play sports and any other events in which they were involved. She was a stay-at-home mom when her kids were young, active in the PTA, a home room mother, Den Mother for Cub Scouts and helped with the Blue Birds. She returned to the workforce years later in accounting for Froug’s Department store.
One of Mary’s greatest joys was her family. She spent a great deal of time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She proudly shared a birthday with her granddaughter Melissa.
Mary is preceded in death by her husband, parents and brothers Jim and LeRoy.
Mary is survived by her, son Roger Long and wife Beverly, daughter Debbie Hoffman, grandchildren Christopher Long, Alison Long, Melissa Murray, Dallas Long, great-grandchildren Lyla Sandridge, Miles Murray, Ella Murray, along with numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, loved ones, and a host of other relatives and friends.
