Mary Alice Parker's Obituary
Mary Alice Parker, 85, of Tulsa, passed away suddenly Saturday, February 12, 2011. She was born November 14, 1925 in Saint Louis, MO, to William and Emma Porteous. Mary was married to Escol James Parker in St. Louis, MO. Mary and her husband Jim were active in the Adkar Shrines. She was the lead in the Drumettes Group and was also the High Priestess of the Ladies Shrine in 1979/1980. Mary bowled several times a week until she was close to 80 years old and as a young girl she was an exceptional tennis player who continued to play tennis with her granddaughters. She devoted her life to her family and was also active in the Republican Party. She was an avid sports fan and never missed a broadcast of her Missouri Tigers. Those who were closest to her knew her simply as Nanny. Nanny's life included close friends and surviving family members: daughters Sharen Parker of Tulsa, Terry Jones and husband Brad of Broken Arrow, son Roger Parker of Springfield, Mo, granddaughters Melanie Martinez of Tulsa, Kelly Stanley of Broken Arrow, Kristin Stanley of Broken Arrow, Kelsey Jones of Claremore, grandson Christopher Jones of Bartlesville, grandson Shawn Parker and granddaughter, Michelle Parker of Nowata and great granddaughters Taylor and Victoria of Tulsa. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Escol James Parker in 1985. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to Akdar Shrine Hospital Patient Transportation Fund. There will be a private Interment with the immediate family prior to the memorial service. A memorial service to celebrate Nanny's life will be Thursday February 17, 2011, 2:00 PM at Asbury United Methodist Church.
