Mary Aline Smith's Obituary
Mary Aline Record Smith 1927 – 2014 Aline Smith left her family and friends on July 3, 2014. She was born October 12, 1927 in Sentinel, Oklahoma to Velma Smith Record and Vernon Record the second of seven children. She attended school in Sentinel, graduating in 1946. She and Fred Smith were married on June 5, 1947 in Sentinel before moving to Stillwater, Oklahoma where Fred was attending Oklahoma A & M on the GI Bill. After Fred’s graduation they moved to Wichita Kansas as he began his career in the aerospace industry. The Smith family moved to Neosho Missouri in 1958, where they lived until 1968, when Fred was transferred to Tulsa Oklahoma. After her retirement from Telex Computer Products in 1984 Aline and Fred joined the Tulsa Area Iris Society. They spent many years growing irises as well as showing the irises. She was always proud and happy when one of her flowers took a ribbon. During this time Fred and Aline earned their credentials as judges, participating in and traveling to many iris shows across the country. Aline and Fred were married for 56 years until his death on January 12, 2004. She was the loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother of 4 children, 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Aline was preceded in death by her parents Velma and Vernon Record, husband Fred, sister Joyce Record, brother Bill Record and daughter-in-law Kay Smith. She is survived by her children Michael Smith, Gary and his wife Terri Smith, Marsha and her husband Charles Meryhew, Larry and his wife Pam Smith who was her companion and loving caregiver throughout her illness. In addition she is survived by her sisters Dorthy Powers and Gerri Bybee, her brothers Ellis and Wade Record, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at 12:30PM at Floral Haven. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Green Country.
