Mary Sue Taylor's Obituary
In Loving Remembrance of Mary Sue Taylor,
Mary Sue Taylor was born on November 4, 1930, to Mary T. Smith and Harry W. Smith in Healdton, OK.
Sue and Mabry met in Ada, Oklahoma, in February of 1953, at a carnival. At the time, Mabry was employed by Western Geophysical Company, which moved from Mississippi to Ada. Sue was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone Company as a telephone operator. Sue and Mabry hit it off and started dating. They went together for 3 years, during which time Western moved to several towns in Oklahoma and Texas. Sue had attended Bing grade school and graduated from Ada High School. During the time Sue and Mabry dated, they visited Tulsa, Oklahoma, and both expressed a desire to live there.
Sue and Mabry married on March 26, 1956. At the time of her passing, they had been married for 67 years. They traveled with Western to many towns in Oklahoma and Lafayette, Louisiana, until Nancy was born, and they decided to settle down. Mabry got a job with the Corps of Engineers in Tulsa; they moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma in November of 1959. They joined Sequoyah Hills Church in the spring of 1960. Sue found her passion there working in the Children’s department for 43 years. Sue also loved to sing and joined the church choir.
They moved to Bixby, Oklahoma, in 2005 but continued to travel back to Sequoyah for about 3 years until they joined Evergreen Church. Sue experienced a serious back infection in 2003 and spent several weeks in St. John’s Hospital. This injury limited her mobility. Church was her life until health problems limited her in what she used to do and enjoy. Sue went to adult Sunday school and dearly loved the class and the people. Sue especially loved children. She always spoke to most people who came near her. In her last 3 years, she had DD, her caregiver, assisting her in daily home life. Sue will be missed by her family and many friends, but God had a plan for her. She went on to be with her Lord Jesus on February 20, 2024, at the age of 93.
Sue is survived by her husband, Mabry Taylor, daughter Nancy Hines, grandchildren Cole Hines and wife Bri, Steve Hines and wife Amy, great-grandchildren Felicity, Crosby, Elizabeth, Philip, Katie, and Joe, great-great-grandchildren Jackson, Riley, and Oliver, Kay Todd and family, as well as other nieces, nephews, family, and a host of friends.
A funeral service will be held10:00 AM, Monday, February 26, 2024, at Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Porta Caeli House https://portacaeli.org/support-our-work/donate/
