I will always remember Mary and Charlie as dear friends who always reached out to others. Mary was a sweet spirit and her memory will always be dear.
My friendship with Mary began at CampEgan the summer of 1957. Mary was Dean of Girls and I was a youth director from Hugo FUMC. After marriage,we moved to Poteau where they had been so involved with the Poteau FUMC,although they had moved. We kept in touch and when we visited Washington D.C. 1977 with our daughters, they spent three days of showing us the sites and having us to their apt. for dinner and taking us to their church. When they would be in Poteau we had them to our home. I was honored to be invited to Mary's 80th Birthday celebration and drove four of Mary's friends to Tulsa. We continued to correspond and my last visit was a year ago in her apt. at the Manor. Mary was such an inspiration to me and I thank God for her beautiful life and allowing me to be her friend. I can only imagine the reunion Mary & Charlie had in Heaven. Virginia Stanley 14901 N. Penn.Ave. Apt.206 OKCITY,OK 73134
Mary and her husband Charlie were wonderful friends and mentors when I worked as a young staffer for Senator Boren and his wife, Molly. A couple years ago, I had the chance to drive with Mary to a birthday party for David Boren at his house west of Norman. We spend 4 lovely hours together going to and from that party. I will always cherish that time together. — Ken Levit
