Mary Josephine "Mary Jo" Wells' Obituary
Mary Josephine Wells passed away on January 9th, 2024 at the age of 81 surrounded by her beloved family. Mary Jo was born in Miami, Oklahoma on December 23rd, 1942 to her parents, Elmer Keith Scott and Olive Louise Banks. She grew up in Quapaw, moved to Tulsa in elementary, and graduated from Will Rogers high school in 1960. She met her first husband Jerry Gunter in high school. They were married and had 3 beautiful children, Natalie Jo, Sherry Darlene, and David Scott. After attending college at TJC, she worked as an executive secretary at Terra Resources for 10 years. It was then she met and married her forever love, Dr. Richard James Wells. Mary Jo enjoyed many years as the office manager at his family clinic. Upon retirement, they moved to Florida to be with Richard's parents and loved everything about the beach life. She returned home to Tulsa after her beloved husband passed, where she lived near family. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were her whole world. As a devout member of the LDS church, ‘Families are Forever’ was a phrase she deeply believed in and her love for Jesus was passionately shared with all those around her.
She was survived by her three children and their spouses, daughter Natalie Jo McCoy & husband Tim McCoy, daughter Sherry Darlene Patterson and husband Mike Patterson, and son David Scott Gunter, her 6 grandchildren Michelle Capps, Justin Gunter, Mark McCoy, Amber Wells, Logan Patterson, and Preston Patterson, and her 5 great-grandchildren, Allie Edwards, Camryn Whitledge, Brytan LaNasa, Javin Hollander, and Callan Capps. Mary Jo is preceded in death by her husband Dr. Richard J. Wells, father Elmer Keith Scott, mother Olive Louise Banks, sister Faye Wyatt, brother Ronnie Scott, and grandson Curtis Barton McCoy.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 PM, Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel.
